From the Artist:
People talk about their "Gateway RPGs", the ones that got them into the genre and had an impact on their life in some way. With this series (P4:Golden in particular) I wanted to tell a story of a different kind of gateway.
Unlike other "teens defeat god" type plots, what startled me most about Persona was the way that amidst these catastrophic events the characters found time to bond and support each other.
The statement being made is heartwarming; even when things are dark, the moments we spend together matter. You can make a difference in someone else's life by just spending some time with them.
This sentiment isn't always easy to follow though, and as we see over and over in the Persona series, sometimes we build walls to protect ourselves and it takes strength, support, and honesty for us to come to terms with the difference between who we are and who we've been pretending to be.
This album is just a way for me to acknowledge how important this series is for helping me navigate this truth, and the tracks within were ones in which I tried to create moments of recontextualization. I wanted to reflect on the persona's we often inhabit and how the strongest version of ourselves is the one which faces it's truths. I took things back to some key moments in my life and threw them into a bouquet of sounds that felt right for me.
It is at times dark and grim, but rest assured that in reaching for truth together we can find light.
I Am Thou. Thou Art I.
