Katrien DELAVIER is from the North of France. It was at the age of 10 while listening to Alan Stivell that she decided to learn the harp at the Conservatoire. Very quickly, she is attracted by traditional music (and more particularly Irish) and is interested in the so-called Celtic harp. In the early 1980s, she joined several folk groups participating in the musical "revival" of the region. Since the creation of Hempson, she has acquired a unique mastery of the ancient technique of the Irish wire-string harp.
Gérald RYCKEBOER, originally from Dunkirk, after playing in various jazz-rock bands and playing "English folk" as a guitarist, he fell in love with Irish music. Passionate about bagpipes (he plays 5 different ones), he currently plays in various formations. Whether through Flemish, Irish or central France music, he explores very different aspects of traditional music.
Jean-Michel ALHAITS began his training as a traditional musician on Breton instruments (bombarde and biniou) in contact with musicians such as Jean Le Nouveau and Marcel Le Corre. He won about ten first prizes in competitions in Brittany (Kan ar Bobl, Quimper, Langonned etc.); at the same time he practices Irish music. From 1983, he turned to classical music and more specifically to the bassoon. He obtained a first prize at the National Conservatory of Music as well as international prizes. He holds a C.A. for bassoon and chamber music.
John WRIGHT, singer and musician born in England, his approach to early music is conditioned by a long practice of traditional music. He arrived in France in 1967 and worked for 5 years in the Ethnomusicology department at the Musée de l'Homme in Paris. While giving with his wife Catherine Perrier numerous concerts of traditional music, largely fueled by their own collections in France and Ireland, he will now focus on the history of bowed instruments, their form, their assembly and the influence of these on sound aesthetics and musical styles through the ages. He has recently participated in several projects of reproductions of instruments from medieval sculptures, notably in Santiago de Compostela. He directs the Porque Trobar ensemble, which specializes in the music of 12th and 13th century singers.
