53/66: 2 THESSALONIANS
SCRIPTURE OF DEDICATION: 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:"
The return of the Lord Jesus Christ is one of the most contentious conversations across the denominations, with more misunderstandings from the biblical text as well as the prophetical nature by which endtimes doctrine should be viewed. I reject all preterist and post-millennial takes on the subject as it is clear from the litany of qualifications listed in the scripture that this blessed event has yet to occur, and when it does occur, it will be something that no man can deny. The greatness of our Lord Jesus Christ returning in the exact manner by which he left: the clouds themselves.
If there would be any one thing I'd like to convey in this, rather than get bogged down in the intricacy of eschatology, it would be to simply understand that there is indeed a literal tribulation, rapture, and wrath period that this world will go through, concluded with and followed immediately by the millennial reign of Christ. As the message of the previous namesake epistle was one of comfort through words, this one shows the comfort of hope as had by the incoming inevitability of His return. Unfortunately, there will be someone who attempts to trick the world into thinking that he is really Him, when he is in fact simply taking the place of Christ. This passage assures us of God's triumph over that son of perdition.
