Butt Studio - aka Harry Butt - pushes the boundaries of 3D with this visually extraordinary masterclass for Tame Impala's Breathe Deeper.
Dripping with hallucinogenic textures and distorted environments, the breathtaking animated promo is packed to the brim with anthropomorphic creatures, who traverse these fantasy worlds with an electric energy. Utilising his experimental approach to animation, Butt dreamed up a trippy dragonfly epic, creating the dragonflies and building the world in 3D. He then craftily comped 2D faces on them, bringing additional tones and textures to the overall piece.
Incorporating a vast amount of animation techniques, the video is anachronistic in its presentation, balancing nostalgia and futurism with the uncanny aesthetic and charming style. Each frame is jaw-droppingly beautiful, and Butt has managed to create what many others could only wish to do - a video that has never been seen before.
