"The Archer" is the fifth track from Taylor Swift's seventh studio album, Lover. This song is not a single, as confirmed by Taylor during her Instagram livestream, but rather a promotional single.
Taylor’s second Lover based livestream based around track five information occured on July 23 at 5 PM EST. During the livestream she explained that the deluxe editions of the albums featured pages from her own diaries along with blank pages for the buyer to write in. The livestream’s promo featured the Easter egg from the “You Need to Calm Down” music video, where Hayley Kiyoko shot an arrow at a target with a five in the middle. Taylor told Hayley to be a part of an Easter egg during filming. Before the livestream, many curious fans visited the Lover page on iTunes and quickly noticed that the name for track five was filled in as “The Archer”. Other fans also went deeper and found that the song was written by both Taylor and Jack Antonoff. The song has a runtime of 3:31. During the livestream, Taylor was wearing an bow and arrow necklace and t-shirt, hinting at new merchandise. The song's bridge samples the nursery rhyme "Humpty Dumpty".
