The Chainsmokers have released their brand new track, titled “Don’t Let Me Down.” Featuring the haunting vocals of 17-year-old singer Daya, the trap-inspired song is primed for radio play, as it’s got a progressive spin on it that lends itself to the a more mainstream audience while still retaining some definite trap elements.
A soft synth lead kicks things off as Daya’s voice takes the spotlight. From there, percussions, claps and hits all slowly build to a drop that falls squarely in trap territory with horns leading the way. Still, even with those sounds making their presence, “Don’t Let Me Down” is far from hard trap, as it’s got a more chill feeling than most songs in the genre, which makes for an interesting twist.
Overall, it’s an exciting departure for Alex and Drew given that their last few tracks have been more pop-y, and it’s great to see them continuing to experiment with different sounds and styles as they grow as artists.
