Originally rumored to be written by the legendary Michael Jackson (even Simpsons creator Matt Groening claimed it was), the 1990 single “Do the Bartman” was actually written solely by singer-songwriter Bryan Loren.

Jackson, a fan of The Simpsons, did however name the song, sing backing vocals on it, and insist his name be included in the lyrics.

“Bartman” was never released as a single in the United States, but it did reach #24 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Airplay chart, now known as the Radio Songs chart. Outside of the US, “Bartman” topped singles charts in Norway, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Its music video received a nomination for Best Special Effects at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards.
