In the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment, Sigur Rós have given a dozen filmmakers the same modest budget and complete artistic freedom to create any visuals they like to accompany one of the songs from the band's forthcoming album Valtari (out on June 4, 2012).
Nearly all the 12 filmmakers working without a brief to a chosen song in the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment have worked (or nearly worked) with the band before. They include Alma Har'el, John Cameron Mitchell, Ryan McGinley, Arni & Kinski, Nick Abrahams, Ramin Bahrani - and Icelandic performance artist and sometime Kjartan Sveinsson-collaborator Ragnar Kjartansson, who has directed the first release from the Experiment, for the track "Ég anda". Ragnar's film is a very idiosyncratic demonstration of the Heimlich Manoevre - including stuff not recommended by the Red Cross... (David Knight, Promonews)
