The Pogues released "Sally MacLennane" as a single in 1985. composed by Shane MacGowan and featuring on their album Rum Sodomy & the Lash, it was the second single by the band to make the UK Top 100, reaching number 54.
The song is based on a bar owned by Shane MacGowan's uncle, which served Irish Ford workers in Dagenham. According to James Fearnley, the Pogues' accordion player, the song also draws from MacGowan's experience as a barman at the Great Ormond Street hospital bar.
