"Beautiful Stranger" is a song by American singer Madonna and was released on May 29, 1999 by Maverick Records. It was written and produced by Madonna and British songwriter and musician William Orbit, who had previously worked on the 1998 studio album Ray of Light. The song was written for the soundtrack and motion picture Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Mike Myers who plays the main role in the film, also appeared in the accompanying music video, directed by Brett Ratner. In 2000, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
The song was commercially released outside the United States and reached number two in the UK. In the US, the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 78 and peaked at number 19 on the strength of radio airplay only, a considerable achievement at the time for a song that did not receive a commercial release. By not releasing a single, fans in the US had to purchase the soundtrack, which has sold two million copies in the US alone. The single was also a hit on the Billboard dance charts, reaching number one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart and number three on the Hot Dance Singles Sales Chart.
The song later appeared on two separate Madonna greatest hits collections; GHV2 (2001) and Celebration (2009). The music video also appeared on the DVD collection for the latter album and also on The Video Collection 93:99 (1999). File Hashes
