Track Description

"Polyamorous" is the first single by American post-grunge/alternative metal band Breaking Benjamin from their debut album Saturate.

The song was the first known Breaking Benjamin song. The song was first recorded in 2000, but without the tremolo-effect in the intro. It appeared on the band's EP in 2001 before serving as the lead single on their debut album, Saturate, in 2002.

After being played by 97.9 X DJ, and now Breaking Benjamin road manager, Freddie Fabbri, "Polyamorous" gained the attention of Hollywood Records who signed Breaking Benjamin the following year. As the band's debut single, it gained significant national radio play and became Breaking Benjamin's first hit song.

Musically, "Polyamorous" features elements of alternative metal with its long-drawn, growled vocals and chunky metallic guitars. The song begins with guitar notes played with a staccato delay effect which quickly swells into a heavy intro. The verses feature palm muted guitar and creeping vocals that suddenly charge into a heavy, shouted chorus. Bass popping and modest guitars are featured in the interlude which gradually build back into the roaring chorus.
