"Special Cases" is a song by English trip hop collective Massive Attack, featuring vocals by Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor. It appeared on Massive Attack's fourth full-length album, 100th Window, and was released as the first single on 24 February 2003. The single reached number 15 on the UK Singles Chart, number 8 in Poland, number 22 in Italy, and number 46 in Ireland. "Special Cases" is the group's only song to chart in Canada, where it reached number 25 on the Canadian Singles Chart.
An accompanying promo video was directed by H5. Much of the imagery in this video was not actually filmed specifically for the video but was culled from old documentary archives and stitched together to form a cohesive story. Only the segment in the middle of the video featuring the two fully grown genetically enhanced humans was filmed just for the video.
Two different versions of this video exist, even though both are basically the same just one is shown in reverse order. The first video is called Version 1 (aka Boy Video – which focuses mostly on the male clone in the story) and the second is Version 2 (aka Girl Video – which focuses mostly on the female clone in the story). The promo video details (in the above section) are identical for both videos. The Version 1 video was typically the version which was shown the most on music channels when Special Cases was being promoted.
