Aubrey O'Day, born February 11, 1984, in San Francisco, California, is an American singer and songwriter who rose to fame on MTV's Making the Band 3 in 2004. Handpicked by Sean "Diddy" Combs, she became a key member of the pop/R&B girl group Danity Kane. The group achieved significant success with their debut album, Danity Kane (2006), featuring the hit "Show Stopper," and their follow-up, Welcome to the Dollhouse (2008), with the single "Damaged," both topping the Billboard 200. Tensions with Diddy led to her dismissal from the group in 2008, a highly publicized moment on the show.
Post-Danity Kane, Aubrey pursued a solo career, releasing the EP Between Two Evils (2013), which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, with singles like "Automatic" (2011) and "Wrecking Ball" (2012). In 2015, she teamed up with former Danity Kane member Shannon Bex to form the electro-pop duo Dumblonde, releasing a self-titled album praised for its bold sound. Danity Kane briefly reunited in 2013, releasing DK3 (2014), but disbanded again due to internal conflicts.
Drawing inspiration from artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Lauryn Hill, and Janet Jackson, Aubrey is known for her powerful vocals, charismatic stage presence, and ability to blend pop, R&B, and electronic influences. Her musical journey, marked by both triumphs and publicized challenges, showcases her resilience and commitment to artistic authenticity.
