Yaatri is an award winning five-piece art-rock/jazz crossover group formed in Leeds in 2018. Their blend of complex composition and ethereal soundscapes captivates the heart as well as the mind. Influenced by the momentum of the rhythms of India, immersive timbres of electronic music, and energy of rock and roll, their music has a strong sense of purpose and journey.
Led by guitarist and composer Liam Narain DeTar, Yaatri has received support and funding from Leeds College of Music’s Artist Development Program, Jazz North’s Introduces scheme, Manchester Jazz Festival’s Hothouse and Help Musicians’ Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. They have performed extensively around the UK, including opening 2020’s Liverpool International Jazz Festival supporting London heavyweights Cykada. Their debut single, ‘Waiting on the Sun’, launched to the packed Mechanic’s Hall at Marsden Jazz Festival in October 2019, was dubbed “pretty much perfect” by BBC Introducing West Yorkshire and named one of the best ‘Future-Jazz Tracks of 2019” by 45 x RPM. Yaatri’s independently released debut EP ‘Reach’ was featured internationally in publications such as Rolling Stone India and has been streamed over 100k times, with vinyl copies having been sold to fans in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Japan, the United States and Canada. 'Gold', their most recent single, was selected as Jazz FM's John Osborne's track of the week, and is Music Is My Sanctuary's most popular exclusive premiere of 2021.
