Ripping Corpse was a death metal band formed in 1987 in Red Bank, New Jersey.
They released one album, Dreaming with the Dead (1991), and several highly regarded demos. Members included singer Scott Ruth, guitarist Shaune Kelley, bassist David Bizzigotti, and drummer Brandon Thomas. They later added future Morbid Angel guitarist Erik Rutan, who went on to form Hate Eternal. They also replaced Bizzigotti with Scott Hornick. Thomas, Ruth, and Kelley went on to form Dim Mak. The band's lyrics typically were horror-themed.
The band took its name from the second song on Kreator's second album, Pleasure to Kill.
Erik Rutan left Ripping Corpse to join Morbid Angel around 1993 & recorded Domination. Later that same year, Scott Hornick left Ripping Corpse to attend Boston's Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts. The remaining members split-up soon afterward, but would later form Dim Mak.
The last known line-up recorded the 1992 promo which featured two songs, one written by Erik Rutan & the other written by Shaune Kelley. After Erik left & while Scott Hornick was still in the band, Ripping Corpse went into the studio & laid down the instrumental tracks for their second studio album. Unfortunately, these tracks were never mixed & vocals were never recorded.
Tom Stevens of Savage Death, Incantation & Nokturnel played a handful of shows with Ripping Corpse according to numerous interviews he's done. Additionally, he contributed backing vocals on the band's full-length Dreaming with the Dead, but is not credited other than a vague mention in the thank you list.
