The Shaolin Afronauts is an instrumental afrobeat band based in Adelaide, Australia. His music is inspired by various sounds, from Fela Kuti's afrobeat to Sun Ra's free jazz, to Mulatu Astatke's Ethio-jazz and Afro-Cuban percussion rhythms.
Founded in 2008 by fascination with Afrobeat and improvised music, the group began its career alongside The Transatlantics (en) before gradually programming its own performances. In the following months, the group consolidates, includes twelve active musicians in its ranks and extends its repertoire of several original compositions.
