Artist Biography

There are multiple bands with the name The Aeroplanes. 1) This Autumn sees the release of the much anticipated debut album 'Broken Hearts and Maladies' from Liverpudlian quartet 'The Aeroplanes'. A firm favourite around the Merseyside scene, The Aeroplanes formed in 2003 when Chris Kearney (guitar/vocal), Paul Crowe (guitar/vocal) and Stuart Palethorpe (bass) decided to bring their previous outfit 'Loveland 1881' to a close to take their sound in a different direction. They were joined by old school friend Ian McMillan (drums) and the line up was complete. Most of 2003 was spent raising their profile around the Liverpool scene and by 2004 they were regularly headlining shows around the city but it was 2005 where things really began to take off for the group: Crashing into the top 5 of the indie charts with their debut EP and breaking the iTunes record for an unsigned artist in weekly downloads within a matter of months of each other gave The Aeroplanes the belief and drive to further themselves more. 2005 also saw The Aeroplanes being featured in the movie 'The Moguls' after Jeff Bridges heard their distinctive sound and personally requested for them to be included on the movie's soundtrack. In 2006 The Aeroplanes 'took to the skies' playing gigs in Germany, Switzerland and the US where they were invited to perform at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. They also performed a full UK tour where they sold out Liverpool's Carling Academy during a homecoming residency. In 2007 bassist Stuart left the band and was replaced by Vicky Edwards who created an instant rapport with the lads; "You would think it would be strange joining a band where all the members have grown up together, gone to school together, already toured around the world and had success, but there hasn't been one time where I've felt weird or like a newcomer." Once settled work on the new album "Broken Hearts and Maladies" began. Working with Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys), the album has been an experience for all; "We have recorded in some amazing studios with some top people" comments Ian McMillan (Drums), but whilst recording The Aeroplanes didn't allow themselves to become lethargic and continued their hectic touring schedule performing in major European cities such as Berlin, Oslo, Rome, Naples. Their profile continued to rise and their music is currently featured on TV programs such as Eastenders, Strictly Come Dancing and the US based dramas 'Veronica Mars' and Cold Case providing them with worldwide exposure. 2008 sets to be the most exciting yet for The Aeroplanes with eager anticipation surrounding their new album and some exciting gigs in the pipeline. Whatever happens though, the group are happy to simply 'be' as guitarist Paul Crowe sums up quite nicely; "We are a very close knit gang who want to be making great albums and playing together till kingdom come. Music is the be all and end all for us." MANAGEMENT: John Anderson: [email protected] David Pichilingi [email protected] 2) The Aeroplanes were a 1980's South African band, part of the indie scene centred around clubs like Jameson's. They appeared on the album Forces Favourites - 12 SOngs by SOuth Africans Supporting the End Conscription Campaign.
