Max Greger (* April 2nd 1926 in Munich - Giesing ) is a German jazz - musician , saxophonist , big band leader and conductor .
Actually, Max was supposed to take over his parents' butcher shop. 1936 his grandfather gave him, however, an accordion, and thus laid the foundation for the musical development of the then ten-year-old Max addition to attending a junior high school Max Greger graduated in clarinet and saxophone at the Munich Conservatory .

As a 18-year-old Max Greger was 1944/45, collected towards the end of World War II for military service. But shortly after the war, he played one of the first Germans, especially in American casinos officer and was thus, together with his long-time colleague Hugo Strasser , a pioneer of the German swing and jazz scene of the postwar period. In 1948, the founding of his own first Ensembles under the name Max Greger sextet . He played during the day mainly folk for Bayerischer Rundfunk and evening in American clubs, where from time to time greats like Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald were sitting in the audience. First recordings with his own dance and pop compositions like on mountain tops , rock and roll boogie , lovers trumpets , Max & Sax , looping Blues , Nobody kisses like you , teen cha cha and rock twist soon followed, as well as extensive touring through Germany and Europe. As the first western band for 35 years Max Greger was allowed in 1959 a tour in the Soviet Union start.
From 1963 to 1977, the band leader had a solid contract with the ZDF . Greger was at this time a regular guest at major ZDF live shows such as Forget-Me , The Golden Shot , 3 times 9 or music is the key . The Thomas Reich composition up to date , performed by his orchestra, from Saturday's current gym used as the theme song of the ZDF. 1970 saw the Japanese his appearance at German parliament on the World's Fair in Osaka is the only German orchestra.

Greger 1986 celebrated his 60th birthday at the ZDF with a "super-band", to which his honor famous colleagues like Robert Sherman , Paul Kuhn Hugo Strasser and James Last came together. Since 1992, he still serves as a guest conductor at public events and studio productions by the SWR Big Band .
A tragic accident occurred in 1992, in which Gregers brother was killed. When both in a garage working on a car, Greger slipped off the brake pedal and the automatic -car began to move and crushed his brother. A penalty was not given Greger for this misfortune. "With the tragic accident he has been punished enough," was the Chief Attorney and let the proceedings for involuntary manslaughter set.
On April 2, 2006 Max Greger not celebrated his 80th birthday at home in Grunwald district Geiselgasteig in the circle of his friends and relatives, but as part of a birthday tour through Germany. It began on April 2 at the Philharmonie in Munich.
Max Greger has a daughter (Hannerl) and a son, Max jun. (* 1951), which is also successful as a musician and arranger. His son in turn means that Max (b. 1982), has been working as a lawyer in Munich and has made music his hobby.

From 1955 to 1977 Max Greger chatted own big band with which he recorded on vinyl over 3000 different titles. The repertoire ranges from pop music to jazz .
