Un trío de hermanas con una sólida base de gospel, las Emotions (con sede en Chicago) fueron una de las principales artistas femeninas de R&B de los setenta. La cantante principal Sheila Hutchinson y sus hermanas Wanda y Jeanette eran solo adolescentes cuando rompieron las listas de soul en 1969 con el atractivo "So I Can Love You", pero cantaron gospel de niños y disfrutaron de la fama secular a nivel local antes de firmar con Volt, con sede en Memphis. y trabajar con los productores Isaac Hayes y David Porter.
