The Jesus and Mary Chain es una banda escocesa de rock alternativo formada en East Kilbride, Escocia en 1983. La banda gira en torno a la asociación de compositores de los hermanos Jim y William Reid. Se dieron a conocer con Psychocandy y varios singles y EPs, hasta su ruptura en 1999, y ganaron notoriedad en sus primeros días por los sets cortos y la violencia que se volvió común en sus shows en vivo. En 2007, la banda se reunió. Siempre fueron considerados el eslabón que unió los 80 y el rock alternativo con la psicodelia y el underground primigenio de bandas como Velvet Underground o The Stooges.
