Midnight Oil est un groupe de rock australien originaire de Sydney qui fut actif de 1978 à 2002.

Célèbre notamment pour ses engagements écologiques (contre le nucléaire principalement), et en faveur des aborigènes d'Australie avec la chanson Beds Are Burning, il réalisa 16 albums. Le nom Midnight Oil vient d'une très vieille expression idiomatique, quasiment plus employée de nos jours : burning the midnight oil. Elle peut être utilisée lorsqu'une personne travaille ou étudie tard dans la nuit. On dit alors qu'elle « brûle l'huile de minuit », en référence aux lampes à pétrole.
