The xx er et band bestående av tre personer fra Wandsworth, sørvest i London, England, som ble startet i 2005.[1] De fire originale medlemmene møttes på Elliott School, hvor Hot Chip, Burial og Four Tet også startet.[2] Keyboardisten Baria Qureshi forlot bandet, med den grunn at hun var blitt utslitt.[3]
Gruppens debutalbum, xx, fikk mye ros av kritikerne, og ble rangert som «universal acclaim» på Metacritic.[4] Albumet ble også plassert på flere «Årets»-lister, hvor Rolling Stone plasserte albumet på #9, mens NME plasserte det på #2.[5][6] NME plasserte også bandet på nummer seks i deres NME The Future 50 list i 2009.[7]
