ドリーム・シアター（Dream Theater ）は、アメリカのプログレッシブ・メタル・バンドであり、同種の音楽性のバンドの草分け的存在。イエス、ジェネシスなどの構築的なプログレッシブ・ロックと、アイアン・メイデンやメタリカなどのドラマティックな展開を持ったヘヴィメタルの双方に影響を受け、それらを各々の豊かな演奏技術と多彩なバックボーンで組み合わせたスタイルを築き上げている。その音楽性とやれないことはおよそない技巧から、日本での人気も高い。ことに双方の要素を色濃く持つ音楽性のラッシュからの影響はメンバーが（特にアルバム『アウェイク』の頃まで）あちこちのインタビュー等でその影響を公言していた。
