part of The Genres I Never Thought I'd Get to Dabble In, If Not in Spirit series, Vol. 4: synth funk / psychedelic soul
A very real push into psychedelic soul synth funk boogie revival is ongoing, with that prominence focused on the early '80s holdouts that kept alive just about every '70s trope you could think of: soul, funk, disco, and that little bit of '60s uptempo summertime spirit. I notice it more than ever in the 2020s where it is coupled with some kind of hypnagogic pop especially, a straight-forward collection of songs in that exact vein is what I always dreamed of being able to at the very least make a mockup for. If I had ever been successful at honing that falsetto for commercial use, perhaps this would've been the output long ago.
