Right from opening track "You And Me," Crash Vegas serve notice that they are no longer the atmospheric popsters who gave us the magical Red Earth in 1989. "September Morning" goes for the weeping pedal steel sound; "1800 Days" feeds off a psychedelic wash of chords. But even a straight reflective ballad like "Please Don't Ask" conveys a gritty, less-precious reality than The Crash Vegas of old. Four tracks from Stone were co-written with Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor, the influence of that band being felt on the smoldering title track.
