Album Description
Available in:
Mercury Nashville's The Hits is an interesting 11-track collection that selects highlights from Faron Young's recordings for Mercury Records between 1963 and 1978. It features several latter-day hits -- including "It's Four in the Morning," "Wine Me Up," "If I Ever Fall in Love With a Honky Tonk Girl," "Yellow Bandana," "Your Time's Coming," and "This Little Girl of Mine" -- which often don't make hits collections. They don't match his '50s hits, but it's nice to have them available. On the down side, the collection also features remakes of "Sweet Dreams," "I Miss You Already (And You're Not Even Gone)," "Keeping Up With the Jones," and "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young." Although these are fine re-recordings, four original singles from this era would have been preferable to the remakes. Still, The Hits has its purpose, offering seven hits that may be of interest to curious fans familiar with Young's classic period and wishing to explore his music a little deeper. It's far from a perfect collection, but it's acceptable as a budget-priced disc.
