Album Description
Available in:
Priscilla Renea gained notoriety as a prolific songwriter, penning hits for Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and many more, but in 2020, she reintroduced herself as Muni Long, transitioning from behind-the-scenes hitmaker to performer with her viral Grammy Award-winning single “Hrs & Hrs.” “I did study a lot before even becoming a writer,” Long tells Apple Music. “I have also been writing since I was eight years old. I didn’t know that that’s what it was called, and I used to have this little composition notebook, and I would just write my ideas.” Long continues to share parts of her journey and growth as an artist like a big diary entry on her second album, Revenge.

The title, to Muni Long, represents a powerful concept: “The best revenge is success.” The album’s 14 tracks detail the highs and lows of various relationships in her life, serving as a therapeutic outlet for her thoughts and feelings, no matter whether it’s about the pressure to find a life partner before a certain age (“30s”), a powerful connection she shares with her lover (“Superpowers”), or being in love with someone who isn’t good for her (“Make Me Forget”).

On the title track, Long ruminates on the aftermath of a relationship’s end, rejecting any vindictive impulses even though she’s hurt after finding out about her partner’s betrayal. “Not lookin’ for revenge/Especially on someone I once considered a friend/I’d rather make amends,” she sings on the chorus. “Maybe five years ago, Priscilla, I would’ve been trying to burn this whole shit down,” Long says. “I’m knocking everything over, but I’m not doing that now.”
