10/66: 2 SAMUEL
SCRIPTURE OF DEDICATION: 2 Samuel 5:10
"And David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him."
This is a terrific passage to sum up large portions of this entire book. We see the epicenter of David's growth as a monarch while also seeing just how human he was. He was not the Son of God, but he is continuously used as a reference point to allude to the coming of that great messiah. In the same way that David ruled over Israel, Jesus Christ will rule over the entire world once He establishes his millennial kingdom.
David's success as a king hinged entirely on his pursuit of God. Even when he fell to the temptation of sin, he never forgot His Lord and always sought the things of Him. He reacted with regret and remorse properly when rebuked by the prophet Nathan, something Saul was unable to do underneath Samuel's attempts at reproof during his reign in 1 Samuel. God gave unto David the possession of the wisdom of what to etch onto the heart: God's own very Word. This goes over roughly 2 Sam 5-10 chapterswise, yet the theme of that verse prevails.
