Vaporwave is a generic term for a style of electronic music that evokes a dream-like or cinematic quality. Aether Select will focus on vaporwave rooted in ‘island’ culture.
The Caribbean has long been and likely long will be a melting pot. Its islands and countries have discrete cultural identities, in terms of their architecture, cuisine, music and way of life.
No one moving through the island can avoid being struck by the prevalence of island music. From dance hall to street corner to bar, sound systems and tape players and radios blare out the rugged beat sent forth from yard to conquer the world.
The retro collage based aesthetics of Aether Select, draws from distinct tropical vibes capturing the laid back groove and lifestyle of island culture. Sonically, it draws from West Indian inspired, sample based island music which includes a nod to mento, calypso, reggae, dancehall, ska and rocksteady to name a few.
For any one wanting a proper introduction to this unique genre look no further than ‘This Is Island Music' and bask in the warm island spirit.
