Thisisme Then (2007) covered Common's first three albums. Go! Common Classics (2010) sampled the rapper's 2000-2008 output. As of 2014, Common still lacked a definitive anthology. Like a lot of other Playlist releases, this particular compilation is neither straightforward nor comprehensive. It's aimed at casual listeners, though several highlights from Common's catalog are overlooked in favor of remixes -- like the excellent Large Professor remix of "Resurrection" and a couple other tracks serious fans wouldn't assume to be on a set with "Very Best" in the title -- and choice album cuts. Those who are inclined to buy digital would be better served by picking personal favorites from Common's studio albums.
