Album DescriptionAvailable in:
For this Christmas jazz album, six top artists who were on Columbia's roster at the time contribute a song apiece. Tenor-great Dexter Gordon plays a memorable version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," apianist McCoy Tyner performs a solo rendition of "I'll Be Home for Chrtistmas," the Arthur Blythe Quartet is lyrical on "The Christmas Song," The Heath Brothers tackle "Our Little Town," ltoist Paquito D'Rivera (in a duet with bassist John Miller) interprets "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and Wynton Marsalis's Quintet (with Branford on tenor) plays an abstract rendition of "We Three Kings of Orient Are." Interesting if not overly essential music.
