After Mecano separated in 1992, José Maria Cano moved to London where he bought a house. There, for the next five years, sponsored and advised on the musical side by Plácido Domingo, he dedicated himself to composing an opera, egged on after his collaboration with the soprano Montserrat Caballé, who had covered his song 'Hijo de la Luna'.
In 1997 he headed to New York to record the lyrical drama and to do this, he managed to secure the collaboration of performers from the Lyrical world, such as Ainhoa Arteta, Renée Fleming, Teresa Berganza and his friend Plácido Domingo in the leading role.
