User Album Review
At times on previous albums, it feels like the band got too bogged down by heavy concepts and being as technically proficient as possible. One Unearthed, there is a focus on technicality, but the focus on speed and brutality is much more obvious. On tracks like “Negating the Abominable Coils of Apep” Nile has finally brought back speeding-ticket worthy tracks similar to “Lashed to the Slave Stick”. There are also a lot of really bad ass and memorable riffs being thrown in on the album. “Evil To Cast Out Evil” is a non-stop riff fest and opener “Call To Destruction” is an absolute beast as well. There are also songs like “In The Name of Amun” and “To Walk Forth From Flames Unscathed” that provide an awesome mix of speed with the more epic, slower/sludgier riffs that are so rad as well.
At its core, What Should Not Be Unearthed is most certainly another great Nile album in a long line of REALLY GREAT Nile albums. However, I feel like they definitely took a step in a different direction with this record that makes it a little easier to soak in for someone trying the band on for the first time. The album also has plenty of great stuff for those that have been following since the beginning and that’s what makes them such an awesome anomaly in the world of extreme metal. newnoisemagazine.com
