Collecting the finest in modern electronic dub since 1999, the Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions have offered some of the finest variations on the genre from every year. This fourth edition compiles several spacy, atmospheric dub tracks together in an attempt to paint a picture of the genre in its totality. There's the Reggae Disco Rockers's sensual trip-hop anthem "Baby," the wah-drenched retro funk grooves of standouts See-1 and the Roots Combination, Cutty Ranks' Cuban-flavored dance track "The Stopper" (remixed by H.F.D.S. regular Richard Dorfmeister), Groove Armada's throbbing house hybrid "Superstylin'," Sola Rosa's hip-hop-flavored "Don't Leave Home," and Tosca's two-track ending that explores both the exciting and tripped-out sides of traditional dub music. What's presented here is often exploratory, interesting, and continually evolving; music that isn't afraid to be wildly experimental in order to draw out the hidden tensions and emotions behind simple drum patterns and rhythmic basslines. A success due to its ability to link all the various faces of the genre, Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions, Vol. 4 is one of the finer entries into the series and an excellent way for listeners to introduce themselves to the world of dub music in 2002.
