A Light Came Down features 15 new songs from Josh Garrels. While Garrels has traditionally done much of his own production, A Light Came Down was recorded at Tucker Martine’s Flora Recording & Playback in Portland, or with help from producer Isaac Wardel (Bifrost Arts, Welcome Wagon), and a seasoned cast of players including James McAlister (drums for Sufjan Stevens), Anthony LaMarca (guitars for War on Drugs), Tyler Chester (keys for Blake Mills), and Jay Foote (bass for Sandra McCracken, Welcome Wagon).
“I’ve always loved Christmas music for its sacred content and the sense of “otherworldliness” it brings to the season. There’s a nostalgic warmth I feel toward these particular songs that are only dusted off once a year.
