Album Description
Available in:
Although Ian Dury's albums all had their share of high points, he functioned best as a singles artist, and Jukebox Dury is the definitive singles collection. Not only are his four Top 40 hits all featured ("What a Waste," "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick," "Reasons to Be Cheerful (Pt. 3)," "I Want to Be Straight"), but so are Stiff singles and album tracks like "Wake Up and Make Love to Me," "Razzle in My Pocket," "Common as Muck," "Inbetweenies," "Sweet Gene Vincent" and "Sex and Drugs and Rock & Roll" -- in other words, it has every essential song Dury ever recorded. Rhino's Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll compilation used this as its foundation, but eliminated two of its best songs, "Wake Up" and "Sweet Gene Vincent," and added several other tracks to give it a more comprehensive overview. So, Juke Box Dury, with its concise 12 tracks, remains the one definitive compilation.
