Album Description
Available in:
"Y Dydd Olaf" is the debut solo full-length album from the Welsh musician Gwenno first released in October 2014 on Peski Records. In May 2015 Gwenno was signed to Heavenly Recordings. The label re-released her debut album on 24 July 2015 .The album won Best Welsh Album at the 2015 National Eisteddfod and in September 2015 was nominated for the 2014-2015 Welsh Music Prize.
A political concept album inspired by an obscure 1970s Welsh language sci-fi novel, subtly disguised as a blissful kraut-pop record. Y Dydd Olaf (The Last Day) was written by Gwenno and produced by Rhys Edwards.
Taking its cue, and title, from Owain Owain's 1976 novel about a dystopian future where the robots have taken over and are busily turning the human race into clones through the use of medication, it is an album that ventures into the realm of futuristic thought with a heavy touch of synth-pop. The album, is sung entirely in Welsh, with one song in Cornish, and reminds us non-Welsh speakers how beautiful music can be even when you don't understand a single word.
