Ah, the Queen's Jubilee, London 2012 Olympics, Euro 2012 and Engelbert Humperdinck at Eurovision, it's a proud year to be British. Britain was once THE place for cool music back in the 60's with the Beatles etc. Then again in the early 90's Britpop was back. Blur and Oasis having their spat, and great bands like Ash, Supergrass, Garbage, Cast and Suede banging out great guitar fuelled tracks with guts.
These great acts (bar one) have all been captured on this brilliant double CD compilation. Most of the aforementioned acts are on here. On the whole the tracks are their biggest hits although The Verve give us 'Sonnet' rather than ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and Cast 'Sandstorm' rather than 'Walkaway'.
There is a brief leaning to the dancefloor here as well with New Order, Fatboy Slim and Underworld all making welcome appearances.
For me however the best bit is hearing again some of the more lesser used compilation tracks - Morcheeba with 'Tape Loop', The Thrills 'Santa Cruz', Inspiral Carpets 'This Is How It Feels' and The Sundays with the beautiful 'Here's Where The Story Ends'
This really is a great compilation, however that missing act?? No Oasis. Must be a licensing thing but a real shame as Oasis really helped define Britpop.
Still there are 40 excellent tracks to get your teeth into.
