This exhaustive 74-track retrospective of Dutch superstars Golden Earring, leaves little unearthed and a lot to digest. For the uninitiated, their only U.S. hits, "Radar Love" and "Twilight Zone," provided just a glimpse of what this prolific, scrappy, and complex band was capable of. Beginning as a pop group in the 1960s, as evidenced in the Beatlesque box opener "Please Go," the group developed into a brutal bar band with a penchant for deceptively simple grooves with a prog rock edge. While similar acts peppered their albums and set lists with covers, Golden Earring wrote all their own material. That alone makes this a fascinating listen, and that rare anthology where both longtime fans and curious newcomers reap the benefits.
