"Carbon Glacier" is the fourth studio album by Laura Veirs, released in 2004 on the Bella Union label in the UK and on Nonesuch Records in the US.
Now resident in Seattle, Veirs uses images of the Washington winter and the chilly depths of Puget Sound and the north Pacific to relate her feelings of hope and fear. Backed by acoustic guitars, simple keyboards and a small string section, it sees Veirs wondering how to enjoy a full and fruitful life in the midst of nature's relentless and unforgiving cycles.
The Independent described it as "a benchmark by which future Americana releases will be judged." Uncut simply declared Carbon Glacier Veirs' "first masterpiece".
The song "Rapture" from the album was heard during the episode "Save Me", from the first season of Grey's Anatomy.
