Album Description

The Love Club EP is the debut extended play (EP) by New Zealand recording artist Lorde, released on 22 November 2012 by Universal Music Group. The Love Club EP is the first body of work by New Zealand singer after she was spotted at the age of 12 by A&R scout Scott Maclachlan, who signed her to Universal records. Lorde and Joel Little co-wrote and produced all of the album's content. The EP received general acclaim from music critics, who complimented the album's lyrical content and Lorde's vocal performances, with other critics comparing Lorde to artists such as Sky Ferreira, Florence & the Machine and Lana Del Rey. The album was a commercial success; it debuted at number two in New Zealand and Australia. The EP also peaked at twenty-three on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 60,000 copies since its release.
Its sole single "Royals" peaked at number one on the New Zealand singles chart, and has peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. With "Royals," Lorde became the first female solo act to top the Billboard Alternative Songs chart since Tracy Bonham in 1996 and holds the record for longest reign at the top of that chart by a woman. Lorde promoted the EP with various concert tours including Splendour in the Grass.
