Stars Dance is the debut studio album by american singer and actress Selena Gomez, released on July 23, 2013, through Hollywood Records. She had previously released three records with her band Selena Gomez & the Scene, which began a hiatus in 2012. The album was influenced by artists such as Britney Spears and Skrillex. Musically, the album is rooted in electronic, pop, dance and dubstep while also containing strong elements of techno, disco and teen pop genres. Lyrically, the album features songs that focus on love and relationships, namely Gomez's highly publicized relationship with pop singer Justin Bieber. Gomez has stated that she will take a musical hiatus following the release of the album, opting to focus on her acting career. "Come & Get It" was released as the album's lead single in April 2013. The single has peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first top ten hit on the chart. "Slow Down", a dubstep influenced song, was released as the first promotional single on June 3 as a free digital download with the iTunes pre-order of the album. Gomez has promoted "Come & Get It" through various performances including the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV Movie Awards. She is set to embark on the Stars Dance Tour throughout 2013 to promote the album. The album received mixed reviews from music critics, likening her new style along with the lyrical content, while criticizing the albums generic and electronic-heavy production.
