Other rappers turn to science fiction, horror movies and cartoons for inspiration, but Ice Cube proteges Da Lench Mob remain up to their necks in the trenches of revolution. Rodney King looming large in their minds, they kill a cop (apparently) in a brief interlude called "Who Is It" and do a couple years in the joint only to come out "bigger" in "Planet Of Da Apes." Finally they promise an apocalyptic nationwide riot to avenge King in "Final Call." They're gangstas out to protect a cultural agenda, not just local turf. As if their supplies are under ration for the coming revolution, Ice Cube and his fellow producers surround Da Lench Mob with minimal, bass-heavy beats.
