Shaming of the Sun isn't a great leap forward for the Indigo Girls, and in many ways, it raises more questions than any of their records. Retreating from the elaborate production of Swamp Ophelia, the Indigos rely on their trademark folky, singer/songwriter style, and while it certainly sounds pleasant, it's beginning to sound formulaic by this stage in the game. In fact, many of the songs come across as filler, albeit expertly performed filler. And that raises the question of whether the Indigo Girls have run out of ideas, or have merely hit a vicious slump. Unfortunately, Shaming of the Sun suggests the former.
