Album DescriptionAvailable in:
Roots Revival is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. ROOTS REVIVAL was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Aswad has been one of the England's longest-lasting reggae bands: since the mid-'70s, they have been active as a backing group for Jamaican stars visiting the U.K. (Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru) and as hit-makers. They were one of the first reggae groups to mix jazz, soul, and funk in with a roots sound. ROOTS REVIVAL features Aswad's trademark sound--smooth, rich harmonizing; Bob Marley-influenced lead vocals; regal-sounding horns; and punchy and buoyant rhythms--merged with the influences of world music and a bit of pop sensibility. "The Best Times Of Our Lives" features a stirring Middle Eastern/North African sound (and a vocal from Cheb Mami), and the reggae-fied version of The Police's '80s classic "Invisible Sun" features a guest vocal from Sting.
