Laundry Service (Spanish: Servicio de Lavandería) is the fifth studio album by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, released on 13 November 2001 in the English version (Laundry Service) and then in 2002 in the Spanish version (Servicio de Lavandería), by Epic Records. After attaining Latin American success with her third and fourth records Pies Descalzos (1996) and Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998), Shakira opted to release her debut English-language project as its follow-up. In the vein of her earlier works, the album is heavily influenced by Latin pop and Latin rock styles, and additionally experiments with dance-pop and pop rock elements. As co-producer, Shakira enlisted collaborators including Lester Mendez, Tim Mitchell, and Luis Fernando Ochoa.
Upon its release, Laundry Service received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who welcomed her transition into the English-language market. The record debuted at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 202,000 copies. It was later certified triple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments exceeding three million units. Internationally, the album enjoyed similar success, peaking at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and later being certified double-platinum in the country. Consequentially, Laundry Service has sold 20 million copies worldwide, and is currently Shakira's best-selling consecutive album.
Six singles were released from Laundry Service. Its lead single "Whenever, Wherever" topped the U.S. Billboard Hot Latin Songs component chart, and became the biggest-selling single of 2002. Its follow-up singles "Underneath Your Clothes", "Objection (Tango)", and "The One" were moderately successful. Shakira embarked on the Tour of the Mongoose during 2002 and 2003 to further promote the album.
