"The Chocolate Invasion" ist das 29. Studioalbum von Prince. Es erschien ohne Albumcover bei seinem eigenen Label NPG Records und konnte zeitgleich mit den Alben "Musicology", "The Slaughterhouse" und "C-NOTE" ab dem 29. März 2004 von registrierten Mitgliedern seiner damaligen Homepage NPG Music Club heruntergeladen werden. Am 3. Dezember 2015 wurde das Album über den Musikstreaming-Dienst Tidal mit Albumcover bereitgestellt. Im Jahr 2018 wurde das Album auch auf anderen Streaming- und Downloadplattformen wie Spotify oder dem iTunes Store veröffentlicht. Das Album enthält zehn Songs und hat eine Laufzeit von 48 Minuten und 57 Sekunden. Der Untertitel des Albums lautet "Trax From The NPG Music Club Volume 1".
"The Chocolate Invasion" umfasst wie das zeitgleich veröffentlichte Album "The Slaughterhouse" ausgewählte Songs, die Prince registrierten Mitgliedern seiner damaligen Homepage NPG Music Club zwischen Februar 2001 und Januar 2002 zum Download anbot. Die Registrierungsgebühr für diese 12 Monate betrug damals 100 US-Dollar. Das Angebot umfasste monatlich mehrere bisher unveröffentlichte Songs, Live-Versionen bereits veröffentlichter Songs, Videoclips, und eine knapp einstündige Radioshow, die sogenannte "Ahdio Show".
Zwei Songs aus dem Album, "U Make My Sun Shine" und "Supercute", wurden bereits 2000 bzw. 2001 als Single veröffentlicht.
Die 2015 über Tidal bereitgestellte Albumversion unterscheidet sich in zwei Punkten von der 2004 veröffentlichten Version. Der Song "The Dance" wurde durch den Song "My Medallion", und der Edit des Songs "U Make My Sun Shine" durch die vollständige Version ersetzt.
"The Chocolate Invasion" konnte sich nicht in den internationalen Musikcharts platzieren. Weltweit wurde das Album ca. 10.000 Mal verkauft.

Volume one of what was supposed to be a seven disk set The Chocolate Invasion was only to be released with volume two, The Slaughterhouse. Comprising ten tracks (or for the sake of correct terminology, “trax”) these are the cream of the crop of the MP3s available separately over the life of the NPG Music Club before Prince lost his interest in that by 2004. The Chocolate Invasion is therefore excluded by many from Prince’s studio album discography but it is in all essence a compilation of previously unreleased and studio-finished music, and if Crystal Ball is always readily included then so should this. So is there anything good on it? Six songs are from Prince’s aborted High album, which was skipped in favour of the more worthwhile The Rainbow Children. The Dance is the only track to receive a full commercial release, via 3121, a fact that underlines this track as the best of the collection here. Others worthy of seeking out are When Eye Lay My Hands On U, Underneath The Cream and Vavoom. But because The Chocolate Invasion is a compilation rather than a collection of songs conceived for one album it’s makes quite an eclectic listening experience.
