Don Quishocking: A Pioneer of Dutch Cabaret
Don Quishocking was a prominent Dutch cabaret group, founded in 1967. The group's original members were Pieter van Empelen (music), Fred Florusse, George Groot, Anke Groot (then Anke Petersson), and Jacques Klöters.

History
Don Quishocking emerged from a collaboration between George Groot of the Institute for Dutch Studies in Amsterdam and Fred Florusse, who had cabaret plans at Philips Nederland in Eindhoven. In 1968, the group won the student cabaret festival Cameretten in Delft, which marked their breakthrough.

In the 1970s, Don Quishocking was among the top of Dutch cabaret, alongside the cabaret of Ivo de Wijs, and following in the footsteps of Lurelei and Neerlands Hoop. The group created a total of eleven programs: eight under the name Don Quishocking, two as VHDQS (Formerly Don Quishocking), and one as the Gentlemen of Don Quishocking in 2001.

Turmoil and Restart
In the early 1980s, the group temporarily disbanded due to tensions that arose from George Groot's membership in the Bhagwan movement. Their program 'We are completely confused' (1980) dealt with these internal tensions, but the performances were emotionally heavy and left deep marks on the members. When the group made a restart in 1985, Anke Groot decided not to participate anymore. She was replaced by Joke Bruijs, Maaike Martens, and Jetta Starreveld successively.

Later Years and Tribute
In 2007, Don Quishocking released the program 'Things you no longer see' commissioned by the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival. Since then, the group has only performed occasionally, such as in 2011 at an anniversary of theater De Engelenbak and at a birthday celebration for Jan Terlouw. In 2012, they were seen at the Kleinkunstgala honoring the 25th anniversary of the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival, with a tribute to Drs. P in De Kleine Komedie, and at the last Open Bak of De Engelenbak. Jetta Starreveld performed Anke Groot's vocals on these occasions.

Individual Careers
In addition to their work with Don Quishocking, the group members have also had successful individual careers. Jacques Klöters became an employee of the Netherlands Theatre Institute and the Amsterdam Theatre School & Kleinkunst Academy. He wrote several reference works on theater history and presented radio programs such as 'The stage of Dutch light music' and 'The Sandwich'. He was also a presenter or co-presenter of the TV version of 'Other People's Feathers' for some time.

After Don Quishocking, Fred Florusse worked as a director and theater maker for various artists, including Karin Bloemen, Jack Spijkerman, Hans Dorrestijn, Paul de Leeuw, Erik van Muiswinkel, and Justus van Oel.
