Artist BiographyAvailable in:
i am an Australian composer and arranger, based in Brisbane, Australia. I love to write cinematic music for media. I’ve been active since 2003, writing for numerous film, game and advertising projects. I am known for creating atmospheric soundscapes that blend orchestral elements with electronic textures, producing music that is emotive and introspective.
You may not know of me, but there’s a good chance you’ve heard my music. I write for my own library of cinematic Creative Commons music which has been used by content creators in over 2 million videos on YouTube alone. I also create commissioned works and arrangements for long-term collaborators such as Alan Becker Animations and Silva Screen Records. I am also excited to create scores for some amazing upcoming strategy games from Stutter Fox Studios and Overhype Studios.
My path to this point has been a winding one. During the mid-2000s, I worked as a salaried composer for an LA-based music library, writing music for film & game advertising (trailers); with ad credits such as Terminator: Salvation, 10,000 BC, The Golden Compass, Spore, and Assassin’s Creed 2.
But I burnt out. So much so that I left the industry for good! After some soul-searching, I decided to return to university to study science at The University of Queensland in 2011. In 2018, I graduated with a PhD in Agricultural Sciences, and moved to Sweden to take a role as a post-doctoral researcher at The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Umeå, Sweden – working with Sandra Jämtgård to research new ways of evaluating nitrogen availability and microbial activity in boreal forest soils.
But I never stopped writing music. I started the Creative Commons library as a way to find my love for music again, and it worked. So much so that in October 2023, I left my research position to pursue my music full-time, once again.
I’m so excited and privileged to be in the position I am now, writing music for you all. I also know that I wouldn’t have changed a thing about my path to this point. Science gave me a completely new perspective of the world, and I hope that my music is all the better for it.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you find what you’re looking for.
Cheers,
Scott
