Circus Custers was a Dutch music duo consisting of Joseph Custers and Herman Erbé. They made Dutch-language pop music between 1980 and 1996. The duo is best known for the song Monica, a subdued song about a girl whose parents were getting a divorce. Other well-known songs by Circus Custers are Louise and Verliefd.
In 1988 they sang the song Sara on the album Everyone is different by Het Goede Doel, which is about a mentally disabled girl and the problems that arise, what happens to her when her parents are no longer there. The song was written by Custers himself.
In addition to their own work, they also wrote and sang the leader of the comedy series Niemand de deur uit! (Nobody out the door!).
The duo released a total of six albums:
Romantisch Verbitterd (Romantically Bitter) (1983)
Als Ik Zestien Ben (When I'm Sixteen) (1987)
Kop In De Wind (Head in the Wind) (1989)
Hun Mooiste Kinderliedjes Van De TV (Their Most Beautiful Children's Songs From TV) (1991)
Af En Toe Een Bui (Occasionally a Shower) (1993)
Kunst En Vliegwerk (Arts and Crafts) (1994)
The music of Circus Custers has been covered by various artists over the years. For example, the Dutch singer Stef Bos released a cover of the song Monica in 2010.
The duo broke up in 1996, but the members remained active in music. Custers focused on writing children's musicals and Erbé continued as a solo artist.
